Case IH 19295 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Timeout Error of CAN-Receive-Frame CTLPTO
Issue description
A CAN bus communication failure indicating that the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM) is not receiving the expected 'CTLPTO' message from the PTO Controller within the required timeframe.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Tier 4b
- Puma
- Magnum
- Steiger
- T7 series
Check the cause
Verify the CAN configuration of the PTO Controller using the dealer Electronic Service Tool (EST) to ensure the ECM is not rejecting the frame due to a wrong configuration
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the PTO Controller and the ECM for disconnected cables, broken wires, or short circuits
Check the PTO Controller module itself for internal defects if wiring and configuration are correct
Repair steps
Verify the Fault
Connect the diagnostic tool and confirm that fault code 19295 is active.
Inspect Connectors
Locate the PTO Control Module. Disconnect the harness and inspect the connector ends for damaged, bent, pushed-out, or corroded pins.
Test the CAN Bus
Perform a continuity and resistance test on the CAN High and CAN Low lines between the PTO Controller and the ECM. Repair any breaks or shorts in the wiring harness.
Verify Configuration
Use the diagnostic tool to ensure the PTO controller is properly configured for the specific tractor (e.g., verifying if it is configured for a single-speed or multi-speed PTO system).
Replace the Module
If the wiring tests good and the software configuration is correct, the internal CAN transceiver in the PTO Controller has failed. Replace the PTO Control Module.
Clear Codes
Reconnect all components, cycle the key, and clear the fault codes to verify the repair.
