Case IH 19301 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / DPF controller: CAN-Receive-Frame Ambient Conditions for DPF

A Controller Area Network (CAN) communication timeout error indicating that the control module responsible for managing the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is not receiving the required ambient condition data (such as ambient air temperature and barometric pressure) from the vehicle's broadcasting module over the CAN bus.

   Check for companion CAN timeout codes (e.g., 19302, 19303, 19304, 19305) to determine if the issue is a severed CAN backbone or a single sensor issue.

   Visually inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the ECM and the Cab/Body controller for chafing, rodent damage, or corrosion at the connectors.

   With batteries disconnected, measure resistance between CAN High and CAN Low at the diagnostic port (should be approximately 60 ohms; 120 ohms indicates a missing/failed terminating resistor or broken wire).

   Use a diagnostic tool (CNH EST or Jaltest) to verify if the Cab Controller/TECU is successfully reading the Ambient Air Temperature and Barometric Pressure sensors.

   Connect Diagnostic Tool

   Connect your CNH EST or Jaltest diagnostic tool to confirm 19301 is active and check the status of the ambient condition sensors.

   Isolate the Failure

   If the diagnostic tool shows the ambient temperature/pressure sensors are reading out of range, the fault lies with the sensor or its direct wiring. If the sensors read correctly in the Cab Controller but the ECM still logs 19301, the fault is in the CAN bus communication lines between the modules.

   Repair Wiring/Connectors

   Disconnect the ECM and TECU harnesses. Clean any corrosion from the pins using electrical contact cleaner. If a wire is broken, splice and seal the CAN wires using an approved CAN bus repair kit (ensure twisted pair integrity is maintained).

   Replace Faulty Sensors

   If the ambient temperature sensor is dead, locate it (typically mounted near the front grille, air intake, or cab roof depending on the chassis) and replace it.

   Clear and Test

   Clear the fault codes using the diagnostic tool. Start the tractor and monitor the DPF parameters. Perform a manual/forced DPF regeneration if the soot load is high to ensure the system is fully operational.
