Case IH 19304 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Timeout Error of CAN-Receive-Frame Electronic Brake Controller (EBC1BC)

A Controller Area Network (CAN) bus communication error indicating that the primary control module expected to receive a specific data frame from the Electronic Brake Controller (EBC) over the CAN bus, but the message was not received within the programmed time limit.

   Inspect the CAN bus wiring between the ECM/VCM and the Electronic Brake Controller for disconnected plugs, broken wires, chafing, or short circuits

   Verify that the Electronic Brake Controller is receiving proper battery voltage and has a solid ground

   Check the CAN bus terminating resistors with a multimeter to ensure the network's physical layer is intact

   Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify that the EBC is correctly configured on the network

   Disconnect Battery

   Always disconnect the battery before servicing sensitive CAN bus modules.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire, short circuit, or corroded connector pin at the EBC or ECM/VCM harness, repair or replace the affected wiring section.

   Replace the EBC

   If the wiring, power, and ground are all verified as good, the CAN controller inside the Electronic Brake Controller is likely defective. Remove the defective EBC module and install the replacement.

   Module Programming

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). The new Electronic Brake Controller may need to be flashed or configured to the tractor's specific CAN network.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Clear the 19304 fault code from the ECM/VCM memory. Cycle the key and test-operate the machine to ensure the code does not return and that the braking system functions normally.
