Case IH 1931-11 - UCM – UCM: Rear pilot head #2 reporting that the spool was not in neutral at power-on
Issue description
A failure in the electronic pilot head valve assembly that controls the #2 rear hydraulic remote. When the tractor is powered on, the system expects the hydraulic spool to be in a neutral, centered position. If the pilot head detects that the spool is off-center (or if the pilot head's internal electronics have failed and are sending an erroneous signal), it will log a fault. Dealer technicians note that a shorted or failed pilot head can disrupt the CAN Bus network, causing other remote valves to go offline.

Check the cause
Perform a CAN Bus Isolation Test by unplugging the electrical connector specifically at the #2 rear pilot head.
Cycle the tractor's power. If the rest of the remote valves come back online and function normally, the #2 pilot head is confirmed to be internally shorted/faulty and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Power down the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remote valves.
Power down the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remote valves.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the #2 rear pilot head.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the #2 rear pilot head.
Unbolt and remove the faulty pilot head valve assembly from the remote valve stack.
Unbolt and remove the faulty pilot head valve assembly from the remote valve stack.
Install the new pilot head assembly and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.
Install the new pilot head assembly and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.
Reconnect the wiring harness.
Reconnect the wiring harness.
After installation, you must use the tractor's display or a diagnostic tool to perform a valve calibration procedure so the UCM can learn the neutral position of the new pilot head.
