Case IH 19318 – Vehicle Control Module (VCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM): Timeout Error of CAN-Transmit-Frame EGRIndc

This indicates a Controller Area Network (CAN) bus communication failure. Specifically, the control module has lost communication with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve/actuator, or the specific CAN message frame (EGRIndc) expected to be transmitted by the EGR controller has timed out and is no longer being received by the network.

   Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the ECM/VCM and the EGR valve actuator for physical damage, chafing, or melted wires

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the EGR valve and check for corrosion, bent pins, pushed-out pins, or moisture intrusion

   Verify that the EGR valve actuator is receiving proper battery voltage and a solid ground

   Check the CAN bus terminating resistors with a multimeter (should read ~60 ohms across the CAN High and CAN Low pins with the battery disconnected)

   Look for other CAN timeout codes (e.g., 19319, 19320) to determine if the issue is a main CAN bus short/open circuit rather than the EGR valve itself

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable.
