Case IH 19319 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC): Timeout of CAN-Transmit-Frame Eng06a (Vehicle warning for filter clogging)
Issue description
CAN bus communication error where the Engine Control Unit (ECU) fails to transmit or the network fails to receive the proprietary 'Eng06a' CAN message within the expected timeframe, preventing the machine from triggering the dashboard warning for a clogged fuel filter.

Check the cause
Check the presence and physical connection of the Engine ECU (EDC) to the CAN network.
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness for disconnected, broken, or chafed cables.
Test the CAN network wiring for short circuits (CAN High to CAN Low, or short to ground/power).
Verify the correct functioning of the CAN controller and its voltage supply.
Physically check the fuel filters, as a restriction may actually exist.
Repair steps
Disconnect Battery
Always disconnect the battery before servicing ECU wiring.
Inspect ECU Connectors
Locate the Engine ECU. Disconnect the main harness and inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-back pins, or moisture intrusion. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic multimeter tests reveal a break or short in the CAN lines, trace the harness back from the ECU to the main cab bulkhead. Repair any damaged sections of the wiring harness using appropriate CAN bus twisted-pair repair techniques.
Replace Fuel Filters
Replace the primary and secondary fuel filters to ensure no actual fuel restriction is triggering underlying logic errors.
ECU Replacement
If the wiring is 100% intact, the voltage supply is correct, and the CAN controller inside the ECU is internally defective, the Engine ECU will need to be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic scan tool (like the CNH EST) to clear the fault codes. Run the engine to verify the code does not return.
