Case IH 19320 – Vehicle Control Module (VCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM / EDC): Timeout Error of CAN-Transmit-Frame Eng07
Issue description
A Controller Area Network (CAN) bus communication error indicating that the expected 'Eng07' data message failed to transmit or was not received within the required timeframe across the machine's CAN network. This is typically caused by physical wiring issues, a failed terminating resistor, or a module failing to broadcast data.

Check the cause
CAN Resistance Test: With the machine powered off and the battery disconnected, measure the resistance between the CAN HI and CAN LOW pins at the diagnostic port. A healthy CAN bus will read exactly 60 ohms. If it reads 120 ohms, one of the two terminating resistors is missing, failed, or there is a break in the wiring harness. If it reads <40 ohms, there is a short to ground or too many terminating resistors on the network.
CAN Voltage Test: Disconnect the suspect device, power the machine on, and measure the voltage to ground. CAN HI should read between 2.5V and 3.0V DC. CAN LOW should read between 2.0V and 2.5V DC. Voltages of 1.4V or less indicate a short or a damaged CAN port.
Visual Inspection: Check the wiring harness for chafing, cuts, or corrosion, particularly under the cab, near pivot points, and at the ECM/VCM connectors.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage during testing.
Isolate the Fault
Based on the resistance test, locate the physical break or short. If the reading was 120 ohms, locate the two CAN terminating resistors (often located at the physical ends of the harness, such as near the air filter or behind the controller stack).
Inspect and Clean Connectors
Disconnect the VCM and ECM harnesses. Inspect for pushed-out pins, moisture, or green corrosion. Clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.
Repair Wiring / Replace Resistor
If a terminating resistor tests bad (it should measure 120 ohms internally when unplugged), replace it. If a wire is chafed, repair the break using OEM-approved weather-sealed splices.
Re-test Network
Plug all modules back in and repeat the CAN resistance test to verify the network has returned to 60 ohms.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the AFS Pro display to clear the inactive 19320 fault code.
Test Operation
Run the engine through a standard operating cycle to verify the code does not return. If the wiring is perfect and the code returns, the VCM or ECM may require a software update or replacement.
