19323 (DTC 94FB) - ECU

Case IH 19323 (DTC 94FB) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): External engine shutdown request received

Issue description

The engine did not shut itself down due to an internal mechanical failure; rather, the Engine ECU received a direct command over the CAN bus network from another module (such as the main Vehicle Control Module) requesting an immediate engine shutdown.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
  • Case IH Farmall Tractors (40, 45, and 50 models with Cab and CVT Transmission)
  • Case IH N-Series Tractor Loader Backhoes (TLBs)
  • Machines utilizing the MTA CCM & APH Stage V MR on-board diagnostics system

Check the cause

  1. Check for primary fault codes in the main Vehicle Control Module (VCM/BCU) that may have triggered the shutdown request

  2. Verify the integrity of the CAN bus communication between the vehicle controller and the Engine ECU (look for CAN timeout errors like DTC 951B / 3096 or DTC 956B / 3179)

  3. If full power loss is experienced, use the emergency re-start feature to move the machine to a safe diagnostic location (allows 30 seconds of operation)

Repair steps

  1. Read All Modules

Do not attempt to replace engine components based solely on code 19323. Read all modules on the machine's CAN network.

  2. Diagnose the Root Cause

Identify the primary fault code logged in the Vehicle Control Module that initiated the shutdown request.

  3. Perform Targeted Repair

Repair the underlying issue (e.g., replacing a faulty coolant temperature sensor, repairing a severed CAN wire, or fixing a hydraulic leak).

  4. Clear Codes

Once the primary issue is resolved, clear the codes in both the VCM and the Engine ECU.

  5. Test Operation

Start the machine and verify that the external shutdown request is no longer being broadcast and the engine runs normally.
