Case IH 19323 – Engine ECU (Engine Control Module / EDC): External engine shutdown request received

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) received a command over the CAN bus from an external vehicle controller requesting an immediate engine shutdown. This is a protective strategy designed to prevent catastrophic machine damage or to enforce emissions compliance when a severe fault is detected in another system.

   Scan for Primary DTCs: Connect diagnostic service tool and read the full fault stack across all modules to find critical system faults that occurred at the exact same engine hour.

   Check the SCR / DEF System: Look for accompanying emissions codes such as 19325, 19336, 19337, or 19402.

   Check Critical Engine/Hydraulic Sensors: Look for codes like 19407 (Low coolant pressure at inlet of main coolant pump).

   Inspect CAN Bus Lines: If no other codes are present, verify the integrity of the CAN A and CAN C bus communication lines for corrupted messages.

   Emergency Movement (If Necessary)

   If the machine is stuck in an unsafe location, utilize the Emergency Re-start function. This allows 30 seconds of operation without power loss to move the machine before the engine is automatically reduced to low idle or shut down again.

   Connect Diagnostic Tool

   Plug the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) into the machine's diagnostic port.

   Identify the Root Cause

   Review the Dot Matrix Section (DMS) or the EST fault list to identify the primary fault code that triggered the 19323 shutdown request.

   Perform Targeted Repair

   Repair the primary issue. For example, if code 19402 is present, refill the DEF/AdBlue tank and verify the tank level sensor is reading correctly. If code 19325 is present, test and replace the DEF tank temperature sensor.

   Clear Codes

   Once the primary system is repaired, use the service tool to clear the fault codes from the Engine ECU and the requesting module.

   Test Run

   Cycle the key, start the engine, and verify that the external shutdown request is no longer being broadcast over the CAN network.
