Case IH 19324 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC: CAN-Transmit-Frame Engine temperature

A Controller Area Network (CAN) communication error indicating that the engine's control module experienced a timeout or failure when attempting to broadcast the engine temperature data frame to the rest of the vehicle's network.

   Check for accompanying CAN bus timeout codes (e.g., 19326, 19327) to determine if multiple modules are failing to communicate.

   Test the CAN High and CAN Low lines between the Engine ECM and the vehicle's main controller. With the battery disconnected, measure the CAN bus terminating resistance (should read approximately 60 ohms).

   Ensure the Engine ECM is receiving proper voltage and has a clean ground connection, as voltage drops can cause dropped CAN frames.

   Inspect the engine coolant temperature sensor and its pigtail for damage, as a completely failed or disconnected sensor could cause the ECM to halt the broadcast of that specific data frame.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Harness Inspection

   Locate the Engine ECM. Disconnect the main wiring harness connectors and inspect the pins. Look for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion (a common cause of CAN communication drops in agricultural environments).

   Clean and Re-seat

   Clean any mild corrosion with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and firmly re-seat the ECM connectors.

   Wiring Repair

   If the CAN bus resistance test failed, trace the CAN lines from the ECM to the cab/display. Repair any chafed, broken, or shorted wires in the harness.

   Clear and Retest

   Reconnect the battery. Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault codes. Run the engine to operating temperature to see if the code returns.

   ECM Flash/Replacement

   If the wiring is 100% intact, the sensor is reading correctly, and the code immediately returns, the Engine ECM may require a software re-flash or physical replacement by a certified Case IH dealer.
