Case IH 19347 – Engine Control Unit (EDC / ECU): Timeout CAN-Transmit-Frame HRLFC, High Resolution Fuel Consumption

Controller Area Network (CAN) bus communication error. The engine control module is attempting to process and transmit the High Resolution Fuel Consumption (HRLFC) data frame across the CAN network, but the message is timing out. This indicates a breakdown in communication, usually caused by a physical wiring issue or a failing CAN controller.

   Check the presence and physical connection of the EDC to the vehicle's CAN network

   Inspect the CAN bus wiring for disconnected cables, broken wires, or short circuits

   Check the correct functioning and voltage supply of the CAN controller at the EDC

   With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port (should read approximately 60 ohms)

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Inspect EDC Connectors

   Locate the Engine Control Unit (EDC). Carefully disconnect the main wiring harness. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

   Trace the CAN Lines

   Using a multimeter and the specific machine's wiring diagram, trace the CAN High and CAN Low wires from the EDC to the main chassis harness.

   Repair Wiring

   If a break, chafe, or short circuit is found in the wiring harness, splice and solder the wires, sealing them with heat-shrink tubing.

   Test the EDC

   If the wiring harness, terminating resistors, and connections are all in perfect condition but the timeout error persists, the internal CAN controller within the EDC is likely defective.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic scan tool (like the Case IH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the fault code. Run the engine to verify the code does not return.
