Issue description

The control module has detected that the system voltage has exceeded the maximum allowable threshold (overvoltage condition). This is typically caused by a malfunctioning alternator voltage regulator overcharging the system, or a temporary voltage spike resulting from jumpstarting the equipment.

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the machine was recently jumpstarted (the extra power boost can cause a temporary voltage abnormality triggering this code)

  2. Test alternator output voltage with a digital multimeter while the engine is running (readings >14.5V - 15V indicate an overcharging voltage regulator)

  3. Load test the batteries and inspect for physical signs of boiling or swelling caused by overcharging

  4. Inspect the wiring harness and connections between the alternator, batteries, and the DCU/ECU for any shorts to power

Repair steps

  1. Clear the Code (If Jumpstarted)

    If the code was triggered by a recent jumpstart and the alternator is testing normally, cycle the controller power or use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault code. Run the machine to verify the code does not return.

  2. Disconnect Power

    If the alternator is actively overcharging, immediately disconnect the batteries to prevent further damage to the machine's sensitive control modules (DCU/ECU).

  3. Remove the Alternator

    Relieve tension on the engine drive belt and remove it from the alternator pulley. Disconnect the electrical connections from the rear of the alternator, then unbolt and remove the faulty unit.

  4. Install the New Alternator

    Mount the replacement alternator, torque the mounting bolts to spec, reconnect the wiring harness, and reinstall the drive belt.

  5. Replace Damaged Batteries

    If the batteries failed the load test or show physical signs of swelling/boiling from the overvoltage condition, replace them.

  6. Verify Repair

    Reconnect the batteries, start the engine, and verify that the charging voltage is now stable within the normal operating range. Clear any remaining fault codes from the system.
