Case IH 19365 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): CAN-Receive-Frame PRODPM1 (HCI dosing quantity, dosing request status)
Issue description
CAN bus communication timeout or data length error. The engine or vehicle control module has lost communication with the Departronic System (HCI dosing unit used for DPF regeneration) and is no longer receiving the PRODPM1 proprietary CAN message.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Tier 4b
- Case IH Puma series tractors
- Case IH Optum series tractors
- Case N-Series Tractor Loader Backhoes (TLBs)
Check the cause
Verify if the HCI Dosing Unit (Departronic module) is online and visible to the diagnostic scan tool on the CAN network
Check the CAN bus wiring between the HCI dosing unit and the ECM/VCM for disconnected cables, broken wires, or short circuits
Verify that the HCI dosing unit is receiving proper operating voltage and has a clean ground connection
Test the CAN High and CAN Low resistance at the dosing unit connector to ensure the network is intact (typically 60 ohms across the network)
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during harness testing.
Inspect Connectors
Locate the HCI Dosing Unit (Departronic module) mounted near the exhaust/DPF system. Disconnect its main harness connector and inspect for water intrusion, corrosion, or pushed-back pins. Clean and reseat if necessary.
Test the Harness
Using a multimeter, perform a continuity test on the CAN High and CAN Low wires from the HCI dosing unit connector back to the ECM/VCM. Repair any open circuits or shorts to ground/power.
Replace the Dosing Unit
If the wiring harness, power, and ground are all verified as good, the internal CAN controller of the HCI dosing unit has likely failed. The unit must be replaced.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, install the new dosing unit (if applicable), and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 19365 fault code.
Validation
Run the engine and monitor the HCI dosing status via the scan tool to ensure the PRODPM1 CAN frame is actively broadcasting and no timeout errors return.
Parts you might need
(2)HCI Dosing Unit / Departronic Module
Also known as the DPF Hydrocarbon Injector Module or Fuel Dosing Valve. Exact OEM part numbers vary heavily depending on the specific engine displacement and machine model.
CAN Bus Wiring Harness / Pigtail Connectors
Generic replacement CAN connectors may be required if the harness plug at the dosing unit is corroded or damaged.
