Case IH 19375 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Timeout Error of CAN-Receive-Frame RxSERV

The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus for expected messages. The RxSERV CAN message contains "Service Component Identification" data. This fault is triggered when the ECM fails to receive this specific CAN frame within the expected timeframe (a timeout), indicating a loss of communication on the CAN bus.

   Check the CAN bus wiring for short circuits (to ground or battery voltage) or open circuits.

   Check the CAN cable connecting the Body Controller/VCM to the network to ensure it is not disconnected, loose, or broken.

   Check for an undervoltage condition or missing power supply at the Body Controller and ECM.

   Verify that the CAN configuration in the Body Computer is programmed correctly.

   Power Cycle

   Turn off the machine, disconnect battery power, and inspect the main ECM and Body Controller harness connectors for pushed pins, moisture, or corrosion.

   Test CAN Resistance

   With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms. If it reads 120 ohms, one of the terminating resistors or a main trunk line is broken.

   Trace the Harness

   If a wiring fault is detected, trace the CAN wiring harness between the ECM and the Body Controller, repairing any chafed wires or broken splices.

   Check Power/Ground

   Restore battery power and verify that the Body Controller is receiving full system voltage and has a clean ground.

   Software/Configuration

   If the wiring and voltages are intact, connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Verify the CAN configuration in the Body Computer. If the controller is defective or has lost its configuration, it may need to be reflashed or replaced.
