Case IH 19389 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Timeout of CAN-Receive-Frame Torque / Speed control from ACC to ECM through TSC1_ACCR message active.
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) has lost communication with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) module. The ECM expects to receive a continuous CAN bus message (TSC1_ACCR) from the ACC module that dictates torque and speed requests to maintain vehicle speed and distance. When this message is not received within the expected timeframe, the ECM logs a timeout error and disables the cruise control functionality.

Check the cause
Power Cycle: Turn off the machine's power and restart it to see if the communication timeout was a temporary software glitch.
CAN Bus Voltage Check: Using a multimeter, check the CAN-High (CAN-H) and CAN-Low (CAN-L) communication lines between the ACC and the ECM. The voltage to ground for both lines should be approximately 2.5V.
Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness connecting the ACC module to the ECM for physical damage, chafing, or pinched wires that could short the CAN bus.
Power and Ground Verification: Ensure the ACC module is receiving proper power and ground. A blown fuse or bad relay powering the ACC will cause it to drop off the CAN network, triggering this ECM timeout.
Message Verification: If using a diagnostic service tool (like the Case IH Electronic Service Tool), verify whether the message sending ID, content, and cycle comply with the communication specifications.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Locate Modules
Locate the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) module/radar sensor.
Inspect Connectors
Disconnect the wiring harness connectors at both the ACC module and the ECM. Inspect the pins for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.
Test Continuity
Use a multimeter to perform a continuity test on the CAN-H and CAN-L wires from the ACC connector to the ECM connector.
Repair Wiring
If there is high resistance, an open circuit, or a short to ground, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness or splice in a new CAN bus pigtail.
Clean and Reconnect
Clean the connector pins with electrical contact cleaner, apply a small amount of dielectric grease, and securely seat the connectors back into the modules.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use the diagnostic service tool to clear the 19389 fault code.
Test Operation
Start the engine and test drive the tractor, engaging the Adaptive Cruise Control to verify the CAN communication is stable and the code does not return. If the wiring is 100% intact and the code returns, the ACC module may require a software re-flash or replacement.
