Case IH 19392 – Engine Control Module (ECM): CAN-Receive-Frame Torque / Speed control from ADE to ECM through TSC1_ADE Message

Issue description

A Controller Area Network (CAN) bus communication error indicating that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has timed out or failed to receive the expected TSC1_ADE (Torque/Speed Control) data frame from the ADE module (Dosing Control Unit). This typically triggers a warning and may induce an engine derate or limp-mode.

Check the cause

  1. Verify battery voltage and ground integrity at the ADE module harness connector to ensure it has not dropped off the CAN bus.

  2. Disconnect the batteries and measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins (should read approximately 60 ohms; 120 ohms indicates a broken wire/missing resistor, near 0 ohms indicates a short).

  3. Inspect the wiring harness connectors at both the ADE/DCU and the ECM for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or DEF fluid wicking into the harness.

  4. Check for accompanying CAN timeout codes (e.g., 19393, 19394, 19395) which would indicate a central CAN bus wiring short rather than a single module failure.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Clean and Reseat Connectors

    If corrosion or loose pins were found during diagnostics, use electrical contact cleaner to clean the terminals at the ADE and ECM. Carefully reshape any bent pins and ensure the connector locks securely into place.

  3. Repair Harness

    If a break or short was found in the CAN High/Low wires, splice in a repair using OEM-approved sealed heat-shrink butt connectors. Ensure the CAN wires remain twisted (typically 1 twist per inch) to prevent electromagnetic interference.

  4. Replace the ADE/DCU

    If the wiring, power, and ground are all verified as good, the ADE module itself has failed internally and must be replaced. Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket and install the new unit.

  5. Reprogramming

    A new Dosing Control Unit (DCU) requires software installation and configuration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  6. Clear Codes and Test

    Reconnect the battery, connect the diagnostic tool, clear the inactive 19392 fault code, and run the engine to verify the CAN communication is restored and the code does not return.
