19407

Case IH 19407 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Low coolant pressure at inlet of main coolant pump

Issue description

This code triggers when the system detects that the pressure of the engine coolant entering the main water pump has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition typically points to a low coolant level, a failing water pump, a restriction in the cooling system, a system leak, or a faulty coolant pressure sensor.

Applies to these machines

  • Tier 4b
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
  • 7240
  • 8240
  • 9240
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • Optum

Check the cause

  1. Check the physical coolant level in the expansion tank when the engine is completely cool

  2. Inspect the radiator, coolant hoses, and the water pump weep hole for signs of external coolant leaks

  3. Pressure test the expansion tank cap to ensure it is holding the correct system pressure

  4. Inspect the coolant pressure sensor wiring harness and connector for corrosion, chafing, or loose pins

  5. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and monitor live data for the coolant pressure sensor to determine if the sensor is faulty or if the issue is mechanical

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

Park the equipment on a level surface, turn off the engine, and allow it to cool completely to avoid severe burns.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Slowly loosen the expansion tank cap to relieve any residual system pressure.

  3. Drain the Coolant

Place a clean drain pan under the radiator petcock and engine block drain. Drain the coolant below the level of the sensor or water pump.

  4. Replace the Coolant Pressure Sensor

Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor. Unthread the faulty sensor from the coolant port. Clean the port threads. Apply a liquid thread sealant to the new sensor (if not pre-applied) and thread it into place. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Replace the Main Coolant Pump

Remove the engine drive belt / serpentine belt. Remove the cooling fan and fan shroud if they obstruct access to the pump. Unbolt the water pump housing from the engine block. Thoroughly clean the mating surface on the engine block, removing all old gasket material. Install the new water pump using a new OEM gasket. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications. Reinstall the fan, shroud, and drive belt.

  6. Refill and Bleed

Refill the cooling system with the specified Case IH / FPT approved coolant.

  7. Test Operation

Start the engine and let it idle up to operating temperature. Check for leaks and ensure the thermostat opens. Top off the coolant in the expansion tank as air bleeds out of the system.

  8. Clear Codes

Use the Case IH EST to clear DTC 19407 from the Engine ECU.
