Case IH 19410 – Engine ECU: High pressure intercooler outlet temperature sensor plausibility failure

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected that the temperature reading from the high-pressure intercooler outlet sensor does not make logical sense (is not plausible) when compared to other engine operating parameters. Specifically, the system compares this sensor's reading to a calculated temperature value or the downstream SCR temperature sensor.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the intercooler outlet temperature sensor for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Inspect the charge air cooler (intercooler) piping and hoses for leaks, as a massive boost leak can cause actual temperature deviations that the ECU flags as a plausibility error.

   Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the live data for the intercooler outlet temperature sensor when the engine is completely cold. It should match the ambient air temperature and the coolant temperature. If it is skewed significantly, the sensor is faulty.

   Cool down

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and allow the engine and intercooler piping to cool completely to avoid burns.

   Locate sensor

   Locate the high-pressure intercooler outlet temperature sensor. On FPT engines, this is located on the air charger intercooler outlet piping.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

   Remove sensor

   Unthread and remove the faulty temperature sensor from the intercooler outlet pipe.

   Install sensor

   Install the new replacement sensor. Ensure any required O-rings or thread sealants are applied as per standard OEM practices.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

   Clear fault code

   Connect a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 19410 fault code.

   Verify repair

   Start the engine and monitor the live temperature data to ensure the new sensor is reading plausibly and the code does not return.
