Case IH 19413 – Engine Control Module (ECM / Engine ECU): Crankcase pressure sensor 2 (in blow by hose) voltage is higher than expected

Issue description

The engine control system has detected that the electrical voltage signal returning from the crankcase pressure sensor is exceeding the maximum threshold of its normal operating range. This is typically an electrical circuit issue, pointing to a short to power (voltage) on the signal wire, an open ground/return circuit, or an internal short within the sensor itself.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the crankcase pressure sensor for chafing, melted wires, corrosion, or bent pins.

  2. Verify that the sensor is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage and has a solid ground connection using a multimeter.

  3. Unplug the sensor and use a diagnostic scan tool to monitor the sensor voltage data PID. If the voltage drops to 0V when unplugged, the sensor is internally shorted. If the voltage remains high, there is a short to power in the engine wiring harness.

  4. Check the blow-by hose for severe blockages, ice accumulation (in cold weather), or physical damage that could be impacting the sensor's environment.
