Case IH 19415 (F-1761-01) - ECU – ECU / DCU: Remaining DEF/AdBlue is below the empty threshold

This code triggers when the system detects that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank has been depleted, which will eventually lead to engine torque derating (limp mode) to comply with emissions regulations.

   Visually inspect the DEF/AdBlue tank to confirm if it is actually empty. If empty, the sensor is operating correctly.

   If the tank is full but the code is active, check the DEF level sensor (sending unit) for inaccurate readings.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the DEF tank sending unit and the ECU/DCU. Look for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins causing an open circuit or voltage drop.

   Check the DEF fluid for contamination or heavy crystallization. Dirt, debris, or crystallized urea can cause the mechanical float or sensing mechanism inside the DEF head unit to become stuck.

   Refill the Tank

   Fill the DEF/AdBlue tank with fresh, high-quality Diesel Exhaust Fluid.

   System Initialization

   Turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine. Allow the system a moment to initialize and read the new fluid level. If the code was simply due to an empty tank, the system should recognize the fluid and the code will move to an inactive state.

   Clear Codes

   Use an electronic service tool to clear the inactive fault codes. (Note: If the machine entered a severe derate/creep mode, a forced emergency restart or specific service tool reset may be required to restore full power).

   Sensor Replacement (if applicable)

   If the tank is full but the gauge reads empty and the code persists, the DEF sending unit has failed. Drain the DEF tank. Disconnect the electrical harness and fluid lines from the top of the DEF head unit. Unbolt and carefully remove the DEF level sensor assembly from the tank. Install the new OEM DEF level sensor, ensuring the gasket is properly seated to prevent leaks. Reconnect the fluid lines and electrical harness. Refill the tank, cycle the key, and clear the fault codes.
