Case IH 19415 (DTC FABF) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Dosing Control Unit (DCU): Remaining DEF/AdBlue is below the empty threshold

This code indicates that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) or AdBlue level in the storage tank has dropped below the minimum allowable limit. When this threshold is breached, the machine's SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system triggers an inducement warning. This will result in an engine power loss (derate) or force the machine into 'creep mode' to prevent the equipment from operating outside of emissions regulations.

   Physical Fluid Check: Visually inspect the DEF/AdBlue tank to confirm if it is actually empty. Do not rely solely on the cab monitor.

   Leak Inspection: Check the DEF tank, supply lines, return lines, and fittings for physical damage or fluid leaks.

   Sensor Verification: If the tank is full but the code remains active, the DEF level sensor (often part of the DEF header assembly) is likely providing an inaccurate reading due to internal failure, corrosion, or fluid contamination.

   Wiring & Harness Check: Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors running between the DEF level sensor and the ECM/DCU for corrosion, open circuits, or shorts to ground.

   Refill the Tank

   Fill the DEF/AdBlue storage tank with high-quality, uncontaminated DEF.

   Cycle the Ignition

   Turn the key to the ON position and wait for the system to register the new fluid level.

   Test the Sensor

   If the fluid level does not update on the display, disconnect the DEF level sensor and test the wiring harness.

   Replace the Sensor/Header

   If the wiring is intact and receiving proper voltage, the DEF level sensor/header has failed and must be replaced. Note: Remove the DEF/AdBlue injector guard and disconnect the electrical connections and fluid lines from the header assembly. Remove the tank cover/header, install the new unit, and reconnect the harness and lines.

   Clear Codes & Reset

   Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool. If the machine was forced into a severe derate or an 'Emergency Re-start' was utilized (which only allows 30 seconds of operation before returning to low idle), the system may require a forced reset or SCR system calibration via the dealer diagnostic tool to restore full engine power.
