19419

Case IH 19419 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): Vehicle speed limited to low speed (US = 8km/h, Europe = 20km/h or idle)

Issue description

This is a software-commanded limp mode that actively restricts the machine's speed to comply with Tier 4 Final / Stage V emissions regulations because a critical emissions-related fault has been detected and left unresolved.

Applies to these machines

  • Tier 4b
  • Case IH agricultural equipment
  • Case Construction equipment
  • N-Series Tractor Loader Backhoes
  • 580N

Check the cause

  1. Scan for primary fault codes using a diagnostic scan tool (like CNH EST) to find the root cause (e.g., 19415, 19421, 19422, 19423, or SPN 3364 / FMI 18).

  2. Check DEF (AdBlue) level and quality to ensure the tank is not empty and that the fluid has not degraded (concentration should be 32.5% urea).

  3. Visually inspect the SCR system, including the DEF dosing module, wiring harnesses to the NOx sensors, and the DEF tank quality sensor for physical damage or corrosion.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port to view freeze-frame data and active codes.

  2. Address the Root Cause

Ignore code 19419 temporarily and troubleshoot the primary emissions code. If the DEF is empty or poor quality, drain the tank and refill with fresh, high-quality DEF. If a sensor failed, replace the faulty NOx sensor, DEF quality sensor, or DEF dosing pump as indicated by the primary code.

  3. Clear Codes

Once the physical repair is made, use the diagnostic tool to clear the inactive fault codes.

  4. Reset the Inducement Timer

Depending on the specific FPT engine model, run an SCR system test, a DEF dosing test, or a forced stationary regeneration via the diagnostic tool to prove to the ECU that the emissions system is functioning.
