Case IH 1943-02 - UCM – UCM: Communication failure or out-of-range condition at the actuator of rear pilot head #3

The control module is unable to send or receive valid CAN bus or LIN bus messages to/from the actuator on the #3 rear remote valve, rendering that specific hydraulic remote inoperable.

   Inspect the electrical connector at the #3 rear remote pilot head for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or broken wires in the pigtail harness.

   Perform a swap test by exchanging the pilot head from remote #3 with a known working remote (e.g., #2 or #4). If the fault follows the pilot head, the actuator has failed internally. If it stays on remote #3, the issue is in the wiring harness or UCM.

   With the pilot head removed, ensure the mechanical spool in the valve body moves freely. A physically stuck spool can cause the pilot head actuator to overheat or fail.

   Relieve Pressure

   Shut off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the rear remotes.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the #3 pilot head.

   Remove the Pilot Head

   Remove the mounting hardware (typically M5 x 20mm hex socket screws) securing the pilot head to the valve body. Lift the faulty pilot head assembly off the valve.

   Install the New Part

   Place the new pilot head assembly onto the valve body and torque the hex screws to OEM spec. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassign the Valves

   Reassign or address the remote valves through the tractor's display monitor (often accessed via the 'H menu' or diagnostic menu) or by a dealer using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

   Calibrate

   Run the remote valve calibration procedure to ensure the UCM learns the neutral, extend, and retract limits of the new actuator.
