1943-13 - UCM

Case IH 1943-13 - UCM – UCM: Rear pilot head #3 spool valve position sensor is not calibrated

Issue description

The control module has lost the learned physical end-stops or neutral position of the #3 rear remote hydraulic spool valve. Without this calibration data, the system cannot accurately regulate hydraulic flow to the implement attached to that remote, and the valve is typically disabled for safety.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect Series (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Check for other codes logged against rear pilot head #3 (e.g., 1943-09, 1943-04, or 1943-12) which indicate an electrical or mechanical failure rather than just a calibration loss.

  2. Review recent service history to determine if the UCM software was recently updated, the UCM was replaced, or the #3 rear remote valve was recently serviced, as these actions wipe the calibration memory.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the #3 rear remote valve for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

  4. Ensure the spool valve is not mechanically binding and can physically return to the neutral position.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic equipment

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible heavy-duty diagnostic scanner (such as Jaltest AGV) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Warm up the hydraulics

Ensure the tractor's hydraulic fluid is up to normal operating temperature, as cold, thick oil can cause calibration procedures to fail.

  3. Initiate calibration

Navigate to the UCM (Universal Control Module) or EHR (Electronic Hitch/Remote) calibration menus.

  4. Run the spool valve calibration

Select the calibration procedure for 'Rear Remote #3'. Follow the on-screen prompts. The system will automatically stroke the spool valve to its maximum extend and retract positions to learn the sensor voltages for the end-stops and neutral.

  5. Verify operation

If the calibration completes successfully, clear the 1943-13 fault code and test the #3 remote with an implement to ensure proper proportional flow.

  6. Address calibration failure

If the calibration fails or the code immediately returns, the internal position sensor inside the pilot head is likely defective. Replace the pilot head or the entire valve slice, depending on the specific valve block design.

  7. Post-replacement calibration

If hard parts are replaced, you must repeat the calibration procedure (steps 1-4) to assign the new spool valve's position to the UCM.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Universal Control Module (UCM)

    47395504

If the UCM is replaced, it will require blank-module programming and a full machine calibration suite. Part numbers vary heavily by specific tractor model, transmission type, and year.

  • Universal Control Module (UCM)

    84297798

    Alternate UCM part number.

  • Universal Control Module (UCM)

    84348127

    Alternate UCM part number.

  • Rear Remote #3 Pilot Head / Spool Valve Slice

Specific OEM part number requires the exact tractor serial number and hydraulic block configuration.
