Case IH 19435 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - EEPROM read error

Critical internal hardware or memory corruption issue within the control module. The module is unable to read its internal EEPROM, which is responsible for storing the machine's operating software, engine calibration data, and emissions parameters.

   Check System Voltage: Ensure the batteries are fully charged and the alternator is providing proper voltage, as low voltage spikes can sometimes cause memory read glitches.

   Inspect ECM Wiring and Grounds: Inspect the main wiring harnesses connecting to the ECM. Look for corrosion, water intrusion, or bent pins in the connectors. Verify that the ECM ground strap/wire is clean and tight.

   Hard Reset: Disconnect the machine's batteries for 15–30 minutes to perform a hard reset. Reconnect and cycle the key.

   Software Update Check: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Check if the ECM can communicate. If it communicates, check if a software re-flash can overwrite the corrupted EEPROM. If the EST cannot communicate or the flash fails, the ECM is permanently damaged.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the battery disconnect switch and remove the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing.

   Locate the ECM

   Locate the Engine Control Module (typically mounted directly to the side of the engine block on FPT engines, utilizing vibration isolators).

   Remove Connectors

   Carefully unlock and unplug the multi-pin wiring harness connectors from the ECM.

   Remove the ECM

   Remove the mounting bolts securing the ECM to the engine block or bracket.

   Install the New ECM

   Mount the replacement ECM and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

   Reconnect Wiring

   Reconnect the wiring harnesses, ensuring the locking levers click fully into place. Reconnect the battery.

   Dealer Programming (Required)

   A certified Case IH technician must connect the EST laptop to the diagnostic port and flash the ECM with the specific software, engine calibration (dataset), and injector trim codes for your exact machine PIN/serial number.

   Clear Codes

   Clear any residual fault codes and run the engine to verify the 19435 code does not return.
