Case IH 19435 (DTC E36D) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - EEPROM read error

The control module has suffered an internal hardware or software fault and is unable to successfully read data from its Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM).

   Check the main power and ground supplies to the Engine ECU to rule out low voltage, voltage spikes, or poor ground connections

   Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or an equivalent CAN-bus diagnostic reader to attempt to clear the code

   Check with a Case IH dealer to see if there is a firmware update or a dataset re-flash available for the engine ECU

   Determine if the code is active or inactive; if it cannot be cleared or returns immediately upon key-on, the ECU has suffered a permanent internal hardware failure

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing or further module damage.

   Locate the ECU

   Locate the Engine ECU, which is typically mounted directly to the side of the FPT engine block.

   Disconnect Harnesses

   Carefully release the locking levers on the main wiring harness connectors and unplug them from the ECU.

   Remove the ECU

   Unbolt the ECU from its vibration-isolating mounting brackets and remove it from the machine.

   Install the New ECU

   Mount the replacement ECU and securely reconnect the wiring harnesses.

   Reprogramming

   A certified Case IH technician must connect the Case IH EST laptop to the machine to flash the ECU with the correct engine dataset, machine configuration, and injector calibration codes specific to your machine's serial number.
