Case IH 19447 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Aftertreatment Control Module: Fault Check for enhanced SRC-Max of fifth exhaust gas temperature

Signal voltage from the 5th EGT sensor is reading above the maximum allowable threshold, indicating an open circuit (broken wire, disconnected plug, or internally failed sensor element).

   Visually inspect the 5th EGT sensor wiring harness for melted insulation, chafing, or a disconnected plug.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins.

   Measure the resistance across the sensor pins using a multimeter (an 'OL' reading indicates internal failure).

   Perform a harness voltage test with the key ON (engine off) to verify a 5V reference and ground from the ECM.

   Check for continuity on the signal wire between the sensor harness connector and the ECM.

   Cool Down

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and allow the exhaust system to cool completely to prevent severe burns.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Disconnect Sensor

   Unplug the electrical connector for the 5th exhaust gas temperature sensor.

   Apply Penetrating Oil

   Spray a high-quality penetrating oil around the base of the sensor threads and let it soak to prevent stripping the exhaust bung.

   Remove Sensor

   Use an EGT sensor socket or a line wrench (typically 14mm or 17mm) to carefully unscrew the faulty sensor from the exhaust pipe.

   Prep New Sensor

   Apply a small amount of high-temperature anti-seize compound to the threads of the new sensor (if it does not come pre-applied). Caution: Do not get anti-seize on the sensor probe tip, as it will contaminate the readings.

   Install Sensor

   Thread the new sensor in by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the wire is routed safely away from direct contact with hot exhaust pipes.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 19447 fault code.

    Verify Repair

    Start the engine and monitor the live data on the scan tool to ensure the 5th EGT sensor is now broadcasting a plausible temperature reading.
