Case IH 19449 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Fault Check for enhanced SRC-Min of third exhaust gas temperature
Issue description
This code indicates that the third Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor in the exhaust aftertreatment system is registering a temperature that is below the minimum threshold required for the emissions system to function properly.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Tier 4b
- Farmall series (100C, 105A, 105C, 105U, 110A, 110C, 110U, 115A, 115C, 115U, 120U)
- Maxxum series (115, 120, 125, 130, 140, 145, 150)
- Puma series
- Optum series
- Quantum series
- Vestrum series
- N-Series Tractor Loader Backhoes (TLBs)
Check the cause
Inspect the third EGT sensor and its 2-pin wiring harness for physical damage, melted wires, or loose connections
Inspect the exhaust piping upstream of the sensor for leaks that could cause exhaust gases to escape before reaching the sensor
Verify that the engine itself is reaching proper operating temperature (e.g., check for a stuck-open thermostat)
Use a multimeter to test the sensor's resistance/voltage to determine if the internal thermistor has failed out of specification
Repair steps
Cool Down
Turn off the machine and allow the engine and exhaust system to cool completely. Exhaust aftertreatment components get incredibly hot and pose a severe burn risk.
Locate the Sensor
Locate Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 3 in the exhaust aftertreatment piping.
Disconnect Wiring
Carefully disconnect the 2-pin Bosch-style electrical connector from the sensor harness.
Remove the Sensor
Apply penetrating oil to the sensor threads if it appears seized. Use a wrench (typically 17mm) to unscrew the faulty EGT sensor from the exhaust pipe.
Prepare the New Sensor
Apply a high-temperature anti-seize compound to the threads of the new sensor to make future removal easier. Caution: Do not get anti-seize on the sensor probe itself, as this will skew readings.
Install
Thread the new sensor into the exhaust pipe and tighten it to the OEM specified torque.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the machine's wiring harness.
Clear Codes
Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 19449 fault code from the ECM/VCM. Run the engine or perform a manual regeneration to verify the sensor is reading correctly and the code does not return.
