Case IH 19454 (F-108-20) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU / ECM): ECU internal failure - Ambient air pressure too high
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) continuously monitors the ambient (barometric) air pressure to adjust engine performance and emissions parameters. This code is triggered when the ECU analyzes the signal from the ambient air pressure sensor and detects an implausibly high value. The diagnostic logic specifically flags this as an internal failure, meaning the fault lies within the ECU's internal circuitry or its integrated barometric pressure sensor.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Case IH Austoft 9900 Sugarcane Harvesters
- Case IH T7 Series Tractors
- Case IH Farmall 40, 45, and 50 Tractors
Check the cause
Verify the code using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to confirm that DTC 19454 (F-108-20) is currently active.
Inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors attached to the engine ECU for damaged, bent, or pushed-out pins, as well as corrosion or moisture intrusion that could cause a short circuit.
Check if the appropriate software is present on the ECU. Reinstall or update the ECU software if a newer calibration is available to rule out software glitches.
Clear the fault code and operate the machine while observing the monitor to see if the code returns immediately (indicating a hard internal failure).
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical arcing.
Locate ECU
Locate the Engine Control Unit (ECU) on the engine block or firewall.
Disconnect wiring
Carefully unlock and disconnect the main wiring harness connectors from the ECU.
Remove faulty ECU
Unbolt the faulty ECU from its mounting bracket and remove it from the machine.
Install new ECU
Install the new replacement ECU and secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnect wiring
Reconnect the wiring harnesses, ensuring the locking levers are fully seated.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Program new ECU
Program/flash the new ECU with the correct machine software and calibration files (a blank ECU will not start the machine).
Clear codes and verify
Clear any stored fault codes and run the engine to verify the repair is complete.
Parts you might need
(1)Engine Control Unit (ECU) / ECM
Part number varies heavily by specific machine model, engine tier, and serial number. Order the exact ECU tied to the machine's PIN/Serial Number. Functionally referred to as module A-9300.
