19455 (F-108-21) - ECU

Case IH 19455 (F-108-21) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM): ECM internal failure - Ambient air pressure too low

Issue description

The ambient air pressure sensor (barometric pressure sensor) is an internal component built directly into the engine's control board. This code triggers when the sensor reports a voltage or pressure value that falls below the expected operating range, indicating a hardware failure within the module itself.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Farmall series (e.g., 40-45-50 CVT, 60B)
  • Magnum series tractors
  • Maxxum series tractors
  • Puma series tractors
  • Steiger series tractors
  • Axial-Flow Combines (e.g., 4430, 8010, 8120, 8230)

Check the cause

  1. Verify Power and Ground: Check the battery voltage and thoroughly inspect the ECM ground and main power supply circuits. Low voltage or a poor ground can cause the ECM to generate false internal hardware faults.

  2. Inspect Connectors: Disconnect the ECM harness and check for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins. Water intrusion into the ECM connector can short internal circuits.

  3. Software/Calibration Check: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if there is a software update or calibration patch available for the ECM that addresses false ambient air pressure logic.

  4. Clear and Retest: Clear the fault code, cycle the key, and run the machine to see if the code returns as an active fault.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate ECM

Locate the Engine Control Module (ECM) on the side of the engine block or chassis.

  3. Disconnect wiring

Carefully release the locking levers and disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the ECM.

  4. Remove ECM

Remove the mounting bolts and remove the faulty ECM.

  5. Install new ECM

Install the new or remanufactured ECM and tighten the mounting bolts to spec.

  6. Reconnect wiring

Reconnect the wiring harness connectors securely.

  7. Reconnect battery

    Reconnect the battery.

  8. Program ECM

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and flash/program the new ECM with the correct calibration file for your specific machine's PIN/serial number. A new ECM comes blank or with base software and requires this step.

  9. Verify repair

Clear any stored fault codes and run the engine to verify the repair.
