Case IH 19459 – Engine ECU / VCM: Multi-signal defect in Exhaust pressure controller - monitoring

The engine control system is receiving conflicting, erratic, or implausible signals from the exhaust pressure sensor. The monitoring logic has detected that the sensor's output does not align with expected operational parameters or conflicts with other sensor readings.

   Inspect the 3-pin or 4-pin electrical connector at the exhaust pressure sensor for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture intrusion.

   Check the wiring harness leading back to the Engine ECU for chafing, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

   Inspect the pressure tubes/hoses connecting the exhaust pressure sensor to the exhaust stream for cracks, melting, or severe soot/carbon blockages.

   Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the exhaust pressure sensor voltage and pressure values with the engine off. The pressure should closely match ambient barometric pressure; if skewed, the sensor is likely internally shorted or defective.

   Safety First

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts. Ensure the exhaust system has completely cooled down.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the exhaust pressure sensor, which is typically mounted near the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) or exhaust manifold, connected by small metal or high-temp rubber hoses.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

   Remove Hoses

   Carefully loosen the clamps and remove the pressure hoses from the sensor nipples. Note: If the hoses are brittle or heavily clogged with soot, they must be cleaned out or replaced to prevent the new sensor from failing.

   Remove Sensor

   Unbolt the sensor bracket or mounting hardware and remove the faulty sensor.

   Install New Part

   Mount the new exhaust pressure sensor and secure the bolts.

   Reconnect

   Reattach the pressure hoses (ensuring a tight, leak-free fit) and plug in the electrical connector.

   Clear and Test

   Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 19459 fault code. Start the engine and verify that the code does not return. A forced stationary regeneration may be required to recalibrate the exhaust monitoring system.
