Case IH 19473 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): No load error of Exhaust flap powerstage
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is trying to send power to the exhaust flap relay or actuator, but it detects an open circuit (zero electrical load).
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Tier 4b
- Magnum
- Steiger
- Optum
Check the cause
Turn off the ignition switch and locate the Exhaust Flap Actuator and the Exhaust Flap Relay
Check if the Exhaust Flap relay connector or the actuator connector is disconnected, loose, or heavily corroded
Disconnect the connector and check the wiring harness for a cut or broken wire. Test for DC continuity between the exhaust flap relay/actuator pins and the corresponding ECU pins
Check if the exhaust flap operates freely or if it is mechanically seized, which can sometimes cause the relay/powerstage to fail
Repair steps
Switch off ignition
Switch off the ignition and allow the ECU to power down completely (complete afterrun).
Reseat Connections
If the connector was simply loose, clean the pins with contact cleaner, reconnect it securely, and clear the error code.
Repair Wiring
If continuity testing reveals a broken wire between the ECU and the exhaust flap relay, splice and repair the wiring harness.
Replace Relay/Actuator
If the wiring is intact and the connector is secure, the internal coil of the Exhaust Flap Relay or the Actuator itself has failed (open circuit). Replace the faulty relay or actuator.
Clear Codes
Cycle the ignition key ON and OFF, then use the diagnostic tool to clear the permanent error.
