Case IH 19487 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): Fuel quantity Balancing Control correction quantities at limitation for injector in cylinder 1
Issue description
The ECU has to adjust the fuel quantity for the cylinder 1 fuel injector beyond its programmed maximum or minimum allowable limits. This indicates that cylinder 1 is either underperforming or overperforming drastically, which usually points to a failing fuel injector, a wiring issue, or a mechanical loss of compression in that specific cylinder.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying active ECU codes related to injector circuits (open/short circuits) or fuel rail pressure.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the cylinder 1 injector for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins at both the injector and ECU.
Perform a mechanical compression test or an electronic cylinder contribution test to check for low compression (e.g., bad piston rings or valves) which can force the ECU to max out fuel trim.
Swap the cylinder 1 injector with the cylinder 2 injector. If the fault code changes to cylinder 2 (Code 19490), the injector is faulty. If it remains on cylinder 1, the issue is mechanical or wiring-related.
Repair steps
Preparation
Disconnect the machine's battery. Clean the area around the valve cover and fuel rail to prevent dirt from entering the engine.
Relieve Pressure
Ensure the high-pressure fuel system is depressurized before opening any lines.
Access the Injector
Depending on the engine model, remove the valve cover (if injectors are internal) or access the fuel rail directly.
Remove Lines
Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the high-pressure fuel line connected to the cylinder 1 injector. Cap the fuel rail port to prevent contamination.
Extract Injector
Remove the injector hold-down clamp/bolt. Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.
Clean the Bore
Thoroughly clean the injector bore and ensure the old copper sealing washer is removed from the bottom of the hole.
Installation
Install the new injector using a new copper sealing washer and new O-rings.
Reassembly
Reinstall the hold-down clamp and torque the bolt to the exact OEM specification. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and electrical connector.
ECU Programming
Using a diagnostic service tool, enter the new injector's IQA/Trim code (printed on the top of the new injector) into the Engine ECU so it can properly calibrate fuel delivery.
Test
Reconnect the battery, prime the fuel system, start the engine, and verify that the fault code does not return.
