Case IH 19496 (F-4334-00) – Engine Controller (ENG) / Engine Control Module (ECM): DEF/AdBlue over pressure failure
Issue description
The DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) pressure sensor is detecting a fluid pressure reading that exceeds the maximum allowable threshold, either during operation or during the system's initial startup plausibility check.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Axial-Flow Combines (240 Series: 7240, 8240, 9240)
- Steiger Series Tractors
- Magnum Series Tractors
- Puma Series Tractors
- Maxxum Series Tractors
- Farmall Series Tractors (40-45-50, 130A)
- Case Wheel Loaders (721F, 821F, 921F)
Check the cause
Check for blocked lines: Inspect the DEF backflow/return line and pressure line for kinks, crushed sections, or crystallized DEF buildup.
Verify dosing valve operation: Check if the DEF dosing valve (injector) is mechanically stuck closed, preventing pressure from dropping.
Perform sensor plausibility check: Use a diagnostic tool to read the DEF pressure sensor voltage with the key on and engine off. It should not read high pressure when the pump is off.
Inspect wiring harness: Check the DEF pressure sensor wiring for a short to high source (voltage above normal) which can trick the ECU.
Repair steps
Safe Shutdown
Turn off the machine but do not disconnect the battery immediately. The DEF system requires time to run its purge cycle (reversing the pump to empty the lines of fluid to prevent freezing and crystallization).
Line Inspection & Cleaning
Disconnect the DEF pressure and return lines from the pump module to the doser. Flush them with warm distilled water to dissolve any urea crystals. Blow them out with low-pressure compressed air. If a line is physically damaged, replace it.
Sensor Replacement
If diagnostic checks proved the pressure sensor is reading artificially high at rest, replace the DEF pressure sensor. (Note: On many Bosch systems used by Case IH, the pressure sensor is integrated into the DEF pump module).
Pump Module Replacement
If the lines are clear, the dosing valve is functioning, and the sensor is accurate but pressure is still spiking, the internal pressure regulator or direction valve inside the DEF supply pump has failed. You must replace the entire DEF pump/dosing module.
Clear Codes
Reconnect all components, fill the tank with fresh DEF, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the permanent ECU fault codes. Run the machine through a stationary regeneration or test cycle to verify the pressure stays within the normal operating range.
