Case IH 19501 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): Monitoring of the upper limit of the fuel mass observer correction quantity

The ECU has reached the maximum allowable positive correction limit for fuel mass. The engine is running leaner than expected (or injectors are under-delivering), and the ECU cannot add any more fuel to compensate.

   Check for exhaust leaks upstream of the lambda/oxygen sensor. Unmetered oxygen entering the exhaust stream can falsely trigger a lean condition reading.

   Inspect the low-pressure and high-pressure fuel systems. Ensure fuel filters are not restricted and rail pressure is adequate.

   Perform a cylinder balance test or injector quantity adjustment test using a diagnostic tool to identify if specific injectors are under-delivering.

   Check the lambda (UEGO) sensor for proper operation, soot contamination, or wiring issues.

   Check for intake air leaks (boost leaks) that might skew the air-fuel ratio calculation.

   Confirm fault code

   Connect a diagnostic scan tool (e.g., CNH Electronic Service Tool) and read all active and stored fault codes to confirm 19501.

   Inspect exhaust system

   Perform a visual inspection of the exhaust system upstream of the lambda sensor. Repair any exhaust leaks found.

   Test fuel system

   Test the low-pressure fuel system and replace primary and secondary fuel filters if they are restricted.

   Test and replace injectors

   Run an injector balance test. If an injector is found to be faulty, clogged, or under-delivering, replace the affected injector(s).

   Inspect lambda sensor

   If the fuel system and injectors are mechanically sound, inspect the UEGO (Universal Exhaust Gas Oxygen) / Lambda sensor. Replace if fouled or malfunctioning.

   Reset learned values

   After repairs, use the diagnostic tool to perform a 'Clear Fuel Mass Observer Learned Value' or 'Fuel Mass Observer Reset' so the ECU can relearn the base fuel trims.
