Case IH 19510 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Fuel temperature is too low
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the engine's control system has detected that the diesel fuel temperature has dropped below the minimum acceptable operational threshold. This can be caused by extreme ambient cold weather, a malfunctioning fuel heater, or an electrical fault (such as an open circuit or short) causing the fuel temperature sensor to report an artificially low value (e.g., defaulting to -40°).

Check the cause
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and monitor the live fuel temperature reading. If the reading shows an extreme negative value (like -40°C) while the ambient temperature is normal, the issue is electrical (sensor or wiring).
Locate the fuel temperature sensor (typically mounted on the fuel filter housing). Inspect the sensor connector and wiring harness for corrosion, backed-out pins, or chafed wires that could cause an open circuit or short to ground.
Disconnect the sensor and measure its internal resistance with a multimeter. Compare the reading against the OEM specification for the current ambient temperature. If it reads open (infinite resistance) or shorted, the sensor has failed.
If operating in extreme cold, verify if the machine's fuel heater is functioning properly and that winter-blend diesel is being used.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Sensor
Find the fuel temperature sensor, which is generally threaded into the fuel filter housing or the fuel delivery line.
Disconnect Wiring
Depress the locking tab and carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Remove the Sensor
Place a shop rag or catch pan beneath the housing to catch any residual diesel fuel. Use a wrench to unthread the faulty temperature sensor.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new OEM fuel temperature sensor into the housing. Tighten it to the specified OEM torque (do not overtighten, as this can crack the sensor housing).
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor until it clicks securely.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use the diagnostic tool to clear the 19510 fault code. Start the engine and verify that the live fuel temperature data is now reading accurately and the code does not return.
