Case IH 19534 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Misfire detected in cylinder 5
Issue description
The engine control system detects that the power contribution or rotational speed from cylinder 5 is below the expected threshold during the combustion cycle, indicating a misfire.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying electrical fault codes (e.g., 3064, 3065, 3067, or 3310) indicating an open circuit, short circuit, or BIP search failure on cylinder 5. If present, the issue is likely electrical.
Perform a relative compression test or cylinder balance test using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify the misfire is isolated strictly to cylinder 5.
Inspect the fuel injector wiring harness leading to cylinder 5 for chafing, heat damage, or loose connections at the injector solenoid and the ECM.
Ensure there is no air in the fuel system and that the low-pressure fuel supply is adequate to rule out general fuel supply issues.
Check the cylinder 5 injector hold-down clamp torque. A loose hold-down can cause compression to blow past the injector's copper sealing washer, overheating the injector and causing a misfire.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Access the Injectors
Remove the engine valve cover / rocker cover to gain access to the fuel injectors (procedure varies slightly depending on whether it is a 6.7L NEF or 8.7L/12.9L Cursor engine).
Disconnect Lines
Disconnect the electrical connector from the cylinder 5 fuel injector.
Remove High-Pressure Tube
Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel line connecting the common fuel rail to the cylinder 5 injector. Cap the rail fitting immediately to prevent debris from entering the fuel system.
Extract the Injector
Remove the injector hold-down clamp bolt. Carefully pull the fuel injector out of the cylinder head.
Clean the Bore
Thoroughly clean the injector bore in the cylinder head. Ensure the old copper sealing washer is removed and not stuck at the bottom of the bore.
Install New Injector
Fit a new copper sealing washer and O-ring onto the new injector. Seat the injector into the cylinder head and torque the hold-down clamp to exact OEM specifications.
Reassemble
Install a new high-pressure fuel tube (highly recommended as they are often single-use crush fittings) and torque to spec. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Seal the Engine
Reinstall the valve cover using a new gasket. Reconnect the battery.
ECM Programming
Connect the Case IH EST diagnostic laptop and program the new injector's QR code / trim code into the ECM so it can adjust the fueling profile for cylinder 5.
Test
Prime the fuel system, start the engine, check for leaks, and clear the 19534 fault code.
