Case IH 1955-12 - UCM – UCM: Rear pilot head #4 reporting internal controller fault
Issue description
The electronic pilot head (the transducer/actuator mounted on top of the hydraulic remote valve) on the #4 rear Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) has suffered an internal electrical or microprocessor failure. When this occurs, the remote valve will typically fail to operate, throw a 'position transducer faulty' error, or cause the EHR system to act intermittently.

Check the cause
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to confirm the 1955.12 code is active and isolated to remote #4.
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness and the electrical connector at the #4 pilot head for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins.
Ensure the issue is actually the pilot head and not a worn or sticking mechanical spool inside the main valve body, or incorrect base hydraulic pressure.
Repair steps
Removal
Clean the area around the #4 rear remote valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Unplug the electrical harness from the pilot head. Unbolt and remove the faulty pilot head from the top of the remote valve slice.
O-Rings
Remove the old O-rings between the valve slice and the pilot head. Install new O-rings to prevent hydraulic leaks.
Installation
Bolt the new pilot head assembly onto the valve slice and reconnect the electrical harness.
Reassign Valve Addresses
Using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST), you must reassign the valve addresses so the UCM knows which cab lever controls the newly installed #4 valve.
Calibration
Perform the EHR calibration procedure using the EST. This tunes the valve for proper spool movement and ensures it functions correctly, especially for constant flow applications.
