1955-14 - UCM

Case IH 1955-14 - UCM – UCM: Rear pilot head #4 reporting that the spool valve position sensor is not calibrated

Issue description

The controller has lost or does not have a valid calibration value for the physical travel limits and neutral deadband of the #4 rear electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) spool valve.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Puma series
  • Steiger series

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the #4 rear remote lever/switch is physically in the neutral position

  2. Look for other UCM fault codes for pilot head #4 (such as 1955-09, 1955-11, or 1955-13) which indicate a hardware, power, or wiring issue that must be fixed before calibration

  3. Ensure the tractor is at a standstill and the hydraulic fluid is warmed up to normal operating temperature

Repair steps

  1. Prepare the Tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and ensure the hydraulic oil is at operating temperature.

  2. Neutralize Controls

Ensure that the in-cab lever or switch for rear remote #4 is resting completely in the neutral position.

  3. Connect Calibration Tool (If Applicable)

Depending on the exact model and generation, you may need the Case IH remote valve calibration tool. Connect it to the tractor's implement potentiometer connector and test point to monitor load sense signal pressure during the calibration mode.

  4. Initiate Calibration

Access the tractor's diagnostic/calibration menu via the A-post display or the AFS Pro monitor. Navigate to the remote valve calibration section and select Rear Valve #4.

  5. Run the Procedure

Follow the on-screen prompts. The UCM will stroke the spool valve electronically to learn the end-of-travel positions and the neutral deadband.

  6. Verify

Once the calibration is successful, cycle the key switch, restart the tractor, and test the #4 remote for proper operation.

  7. Hardware Replacement

If the calibration repeatedly fails or times out, the spool valve position sensor or the pilot head itself is likely defective and the pilot head assembly will require replacement.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Remote Valve Calibration Tool

    CAS2806

Required for remote calibrations on many MX/Magnum/Steiger models; includes a pressure transducer and wiring lead

  • Rear Pilot Head / EHR Actuator

Generic part name; specific OEM part number depends on the exact tractor model and valve stack configuration

  • Spool Valve Position Sensor

Often integrated directly into the pilot head assembly
