Case IH 19553 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC) or SCR Dosing Control Unit (DCU): Power supply monitoring for the NOx sensor
Issue description
Triggers when the system detects an irregularity in the voltage supply to the Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) sensor or its internal heating element. It typically indicates an open circuit, a short circuit to ground, or a short circuit to battery voltage on the sensor's power supply line.

Check the cause
Inspect the NOx sensor wiring harness for melted insulation, chafing against the chassis, or physical damage from exhaust heat
Disconnect the NOx sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or pushed-out terminals
Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving the correct power supply voltage (typically 12V or 24V depending on the machine's architecture) and has a solid ground connection
Check the fuses and relays that supply power to the SCR/aftertreatment system, as a blown fuse will cut power to the sensor and trigger this code
Verify the integrity of the CAN communication lines at the sensor connector, as power supply issues often disrupt the sensor's ability to broadcast on the CAN bus
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or short circuit in the machine's main harness, repair the wiring and replace any blown fuses.
Remove the Sensor
If the power supply to the connector is good but the sensor has failed internally, locate the faulty NOx sensor on the exhaust pipe. Disconnect its electrical connector and carefully unscrew the sensor from the exhaust bung.
Install New Sensor
Apply a high-temperature anti-seize compound to the threads of the new NOx sensor (if it does not come pre-applied). Thread it into the exhaust pipe and tighten to the OEM torque specification.
Route Wiring
Route the new sensor's wiring harness exactly as the original was routed, ensuring it is secured away from extreme exhaust heat and moving parts. Reconnect the electrical plug.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the 19553 fault code.
Verify Repair
Run the engine and perform an SCR system test to ensure the sensor is reading correctly and the code does not return.
