Case IH 19559 – DCU (Dosing Control Unit): Low UREA level 1 (warning) - UREA level below Limit 1 - P203F Reagent - fluid level in tank - too low
Issue description
This code indicates that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF / Urea) level in the tank has dropped below the first warning threshold (Limit 1). If the tank is full but the code remains active, it indicates a failure in the DEF level sensor, a wiring issue, or contaminated fluid mimicking a sensor failure.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Tier 4a
- Tier 4b
- Case IH Magnum tractors (235–340 Series 4)
- Case IH Steiger tractors
- Case IH Puma tractors
- Case IH Axial-Flow Combines (7230, 8230, 9230)
Check the cause
Physically check the DEF tank level and compare it to what the sensor is reporting on the cab display. If the tank is empty, the system is working as intended.
Inspect the DEF fluid quality. Ensure it is ISO 22241 compliant with a proper 32.5% urea concentration. Poor-quality, crystallized, or contaminated fluid can cause the sensor to read incorrectly.
Examine the DEF header unit, wiring harnesses, and connectors. Look for signs of corrosion, pin damage, or physical cracks around the head unit.
Repair steps
Refill the Tank
Fill the DEF tank with fresh, uncontaminated Diesel Exhaust Fluid. Cycle the key to see if the DCU recognizes the new fluid level and clears the warning.
Wiring Repair
If the tank is full but the code persists, test the wiring between the DEF header and the DCU. Repair any corroded connectors or broken wires.
Replace the DEF Header
If the wiring is intact and the fluid is clean, the DEF level sensor has failed. Because the level sensor is integrated into the DEF header assembly (along with the temperature sensor and suction tube), the entire DEF header unit must be replaced.
Clear Codes
After replacing the header, use a diagnostic tool to clear the 19559 / P203F fault codes from the DCU.
