Case IH 19564 – VCM (Vehicle Control Module) / Engine Control Unit (ECU): Error detection and healing of MIN error of lambda plausibility test

Issue description

This code indicates that the engine control system has detected an implausible signal from the Lambda (Oxygen/O2) sensor. Specifically, a "MIN error" means the sensor's voltage or resistance reading is implausibly low compared to the expected calculated values for the current engine load and speed. This typically occurs when the sensor is heavily contaminated with soot/ash, the sensor's internal heating element has failed, or the sensor is reading an excessively rich exhaust mixture that falls outside the ECU's acceptable parameters.

Check the cause

  1. Check the 7.5A 'LAMBDA SENSOR B+' heater circuit fuse located in the side console box (under the steering column shroud) to ensure the sensor's heating element is receiving power.

  2. Visually inspect the Lambda sensor wiring harness and connectors for melting, chafing, or corrosion caused by exhaust heat.

  3. Verify the air filter is clean and check for exhaust leaks upstream of the sensor to rule out intake/exhaust restrictions causing a rich condition.

  4. Connect the Case Electronic Service Tool (EST) and monitor the Lambda sensor voltage live. If the voltage is flatlined or fixed at a single resistance value despite engine RPM changes, the sensor element is dead.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and allow the exhaust aftertreatment system (ATS) to cool completely. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Removal

    Locate the Lambda sensor on the exhaust piping (typically near the Oxidation Catalyst/DPF assembly). Disconnect the electrical connector. Use an O2 sensor socket to carefully unthread the sensor from the exhaust pipe.

  3. Installation

    Apply a small amount of high-temperature anti-seize compound to the threads of the new sensor (if it does not come pre-applied). Caution: Do not get any anti-seize on the sensor tip, as this will instantly contaminate it. Thread the sensor in by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten to the OEM torque specification.

  4. Reconnection

    Reconnect the sensor's electrical pigtail and reconnect the battery.

  5. ECU Reset (Crucial)

    You must use the Case Electronic Service Tool (EST) to reset the system. Navigate to the Configuration menu, select the Lambda Sensor component, and click the RESET button. This clears the old learned values from the ECU. Finally, clear the 19564 fault code.
