Case IH 19589 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Error for critical oil dilution time is detected

This code indicates that the engine oil has been diluted with diesel fuel past a critical, unsafe threshold. This is most commonly caused by frequent, prolonged, or aborted Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) active regenerations, leaking fuel injectors, or an internal leak in the high-pressure fuel pump.

   Check engine oil level and condition for an overfull crankcase and a distinct diesel fuel odor

   Check DPF regeneration history using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to evaluate soot load and frequency of active regenerations

   Perform an injector balance/return flow test to check for leaking fuel injectors

   Inspect the high-pressure fuel pump for internal leaks into the gear train

   Address the Root Cause

   Before changing the oil, fix the underlying issue causing the unburned fuel to enter the crankcase. This may require forcing a stationary DPF regeneration, cleaning/replacing a clogged DPF, replacing leaking fuel injectors, or replacing a faulty high-pressure fuel pump.

   Drain the Engine Oil

   Completely drain the diluted engine oil from the crankcase.

   Replace the Oil Filter

   Remove and replace the engine oil filter.

   Refill Engine Oil

   Refill the engine with the OEM-specified engine oil (typically a 15W-40 or 10W-40 API CJ-4/CK-4 oil designed to handle heavy loads and resist viscosity breakdown).

   Reset the Oil Dilution Counter

   Connect the CNH EST diagnostic laptop and perform an "Oil dilution reset" to clear the ECM's calculated dilution timer.

   Clear Fault Codes

   Clear fault code 19589 from the ECM/VCM memory and run the engine to verify the repair.
