Case IH 19600 – Engine Control Module (ECM): ECM power stage hardware reports a 'over temperature' error

The internal power stage (the output driver/transistor circuit) within the Engine Control Module (ECM) has exceeded its maximum safe operating temperature. This usually means there is an excessive electrical load, a short circuit in the wiring, a defective high-current component (such as a fuel filter heater or SCR urea pump), or abnormally high battery voltage causing the internal ECM hardware to overheat.

   Check battery voltage to ensure it is not excessively high, as overvoltage can cause the ECM power stage to overheat

   Inspect high-current actuators, specifically the Fuel Filter Heater and the SCR Reagent (Urea) Pump / Dosing Valve, for excessive load

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the ECM and high-current actuators for short circuits to ground, short circuits to power, or melted wires

   Ensure the ECM is not subjected to abnormally high external temperatures and that its mounting location is free of debris

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage.

   Isolate the Circuit

   Disconnect the connectors for the fuel filter heater and the SCR dosing system.

   Test the Actuators

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the fuel filter heater element and the SCR pump motor. If the resistance is out of specification (indicating an internal short), the component must be replaced.

   Test the Wiring

   Perform a continuity check and a short-to-ground check on the wiring harness pins leading back to the ECM. Repair any chafed or shorted wires.

   Clear and Retest

   Reconnect the components (or install new ones if they failed the resistance test), reconnect the battery, and use a diagnostic tool (such as the CNH EST tool) to clear the fault codes.

   ECM Replacement (If Necessary)

   If no problems are found in the wiring harness or the external actuators, and the fault immediately returns, the ECM's internal power stage hardware is permanently damaged. The ECM must be replaced and reprogrammed.
