Case IH 19611 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Counter for the Oil pressure in Oil Sump

Issue description

The engine control system has registered a low oil pressure condition in the oil sump that has triggered a fault counter, or there is a malfunction/implausible signal coming from the oil pressure sensor itself.

Check the cause

  1. Verify Oil Level & Condition: Check the engine oil dipstick. Ensure the oil level is between the MIN and MAX marks. Inspect the oil for fuel or coolant contamination, which thins the oil and causes genuine low oil pressure.

  2. Manual Pressure Test: Plumb a manual mechanical oil pressure gauge into the oil pressure test port. Start the engine and compare the mechanical gauge reading to the OEM specification to determine if the issue is electrical or mechanical.

  3. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Locate the oil pressure sensor on the engine block/sump. Inspect the pigtail connector and wiring harness for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

Repair steps

  1. Park the machine on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery ground.

    This ensures safety before beginning the repair.

  2. Locate the engine oil pressure sensor.

    On FPT engines, this is typically located near the oil filter housing or directly on the side of the engine block above the oil sump.

  3. Carefully depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

    Ensure the connector is fully released before pulling.

  4. Thoroughly clean the area around the base of the sensor.

    This prevents dirt or debris from falling into the engine oil gallery when the sensor is removed.

  5. Using the appropriate deep socket or wrench, unscrew the faulty oil pressure sensor.

    Have a rag ready to catch any residual oil drips.

  6. Thread the new OEM oil pressure sensor into the port by hand.

    This prevents cross-threading of the new sensor.

  7. Tighten the sensor to the manufacturer's specified torque.

    Do not overtighten, as the brass threads can shear.

  8. Reconnect the electrical harness.

    Ensure it clicks securely into place.

  9. Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and verify the repair.

    Verify that the oil pressure warning light extinguishes and the fault code clears. Check the sensor base for leaks.
