Case IH 19643 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): Short circuit to ground of the pressure control valve output.

The control module has detected a short circuit to ground on the electrical circuit that commands the Fuel Pressure Control Valve (also known as the Suction Control Valve, Fuel Metering Unit, or MPROP), preventing the module from properly modulating the valve.

   Inspect the engine wiring harness between the Engine ECM and the Pressure Control Valve for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or areas rubbing against the engine block.

   Disconnect the plug at the Pressure Control Valve and the ECM to check for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge the circuit to ground.

   With both ends of the harness disconnected, use a digital multimeter to measure continuity between the Pressure Control Valve control wire and a known good chassis ground.

   Test the internal resistance of the Pressure Control Valve solenoid by checking for continuity between the valve's connector pins and its metal housing.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Address Wiring

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a short in the harness, locate the damaged section. Repair the wire using approved splicing techniques (solder and heat shrink) or replace the affected harness section.

   Clean the Area

   If the valve itself is internally shorted, thoroughly clean the area around the high-pressure fuel pump and the Pressure Control Valve to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.

   Remove the Valve

   Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the mounting bolts securing the valve to the high-pressure fuel pump. Carefully pull the valve out.

   Prepare the New Valve

   Discard the old valve and its O-rings. Lubricate the O-rings on the new Pressure Control Valve with clean diesel fuel or clean engine oil.

   Install the New Valve

   Carefully insert the new valve into the pump housing, ensuring the O-rings are not pinched. Install and torque the mounting bolts to the OEM specification.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the valve and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Connect a diagnostic scan tool (such as the Case IH EST) to clear fault code 19643. Start the engine, check for fuel leaks, and verify that the fuel rail pressure is within specification and the code does not return.
