Case IH 19644 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) or Dosing Control Unit (DCU): Signal range check high error of pressure control valve AD-channel
Issue description
The Analog-to-Digital (AD) channel monitoring the pressure control valve within the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) / Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system is receiving a voltage signal that is higher than the maximum allowed threshold. This condition typically indicates a short-to-power (battery voltage) in the wiring harness, a disconnected plug (open circuit causing voltage to float high), or an internal failure of the pressure control valve's electrical solenoid.

Check the cause
Verify the Code: Check the AFS Pro display or use a CNH diagnostic tool to confirm if the code is Active or Pending.
Visual Inspection: Locate the DEF dosing module and pressure control valve. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve for chafing, melting, or rodent damage.
Connector Check: Disconnect the pressure control valve plug. Check for DEF fluid intrusion (crystallization), water ingress, or corroded pins, which can bridge circuits and cause high voltage readings.
Circuit Testing: Using a multimeter, test the AD-channel signal wire at the connector for a short-to-battery (12V/24V depending on the system) or an open circuit.
Component Testing: Measure the internal resistance of the pressure control valve solenoid to see if it is out of OEM specification (indicating an internal short or open coil).
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the DEF dosing pump and pressure control valve. DEF systems are highly sensitive to dirt and contamination.
Wiring Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or broken wire, splice and repair the damaged section of the harness using weather-sealed connectors, or replace the pigtail connector.
Valve Replacement
If the wiring is intact and the valve is faulty: Place a clean catch pan under the dosing module to catch any spilled DEF. Disconnect the electrical connector from the pressure control valve. Carefully disconnect the associated DEF lines. Unbolt and remove the faulty pressure control valve (or the entire dosing module if the valve is integrated and not serviced separately). Install the new valve/module and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.
Reassembly
Reconnect the DEF lines and the electrical connector. Ensure the connector clicks securely into place.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use a CNH diagnostic tool to clear the permanent/active fault code. Run the engine and perform a forced DEF dosing test or cycle test to ensure the system builds pressure without logging the code again.
