Case IH 19655 – Engine Control Module (ECM / EDC): Defect fault check for short circuit to ground error
Issue description
Triggered when the system detects a short circuit to ground on the circuit for the fuel pressure sensor located upstream of the main fuel filter. This sensor monitors the low-pressure fuel supply before it enters the main filter and high-pressure pump to ensure proper fuel delivery.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Tier 4b
- Puma series (115 through 220, CVX models)
- Maxxum series (110-140)
- Optum series
- Magnum
- Steiger
- Patriot sprayers
Check the cause
Inspect the 3-pin electrical connector and wiring harness at the fuel pressure sensor for chafing, bare wires, or moisture that could cause a short circuit to ground.
Verify the 5V reference supply to the sensor from the ECM.
Check the fuel system for kinked lines, contamination, or air ingress at O-rings and connections, which can cause excessive restriction or erratic pressure readings.
Repair steps
Turn off the engine and allow the machine to cool.
Relieve the fuel system pressure to ensure safety before opening the system.
Locate the fuel pressure sensor (typically threaded into the fuel filter housing or common rail).
Unplug the 3-pin electrical wiring harness connector from the sensor.
Unthread and remove the old sensor.
Thread in the new replacement sensor and tighten securely.
Note that thread sizes may be M14 or M18x1.5 depending on the specific filter housing.
Reconnect the electrical wiring harness.
Clear the fault codes using the Electronic Service Tool (EST).
