Case IH 19663 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel pressure sensor voltage is lower than expected
Issue description
This code indicates that the signal voltage sent from the fuel rail pressure sensor to the engine computer has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition can be triggered by an actual low fuel pressure event (such as a severe fuel restriction, clogged filters, or air in the lines) or an electrical fault (such as a short to ground, a biased/failed sensor, or a broken signal wire).

Check the cause
Fuel Filter & Line Inspection: Inspect and replace fuel filters. Check the fuel tank breather to ensure a vacuum isn't forming in the tank.
Air in Fuel System: Check for suction-side leaks that could introduce air into the fuel lines, causing pressure drops and cavitation.
Wiring & Connector Check: Inspect the 3-wire pigtail connector at the fuel pressure sensor. Look for chafed wires, corrosion, or poor pin fitment.
Voltage Testing: Using a multimeter, probe the sensor connector (key on, engine off). You should find a 5V reference wire, a ground wire (should test below 500mV), and a signal wire.
Grounds: Check the main ECM and battery ground cables. Voltage spikes or poor grounds are known to cause false sensor voltage codes.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the engine, remove the key, and allow the machine to sit. The high-pressure common rail system operates at extreme pressures and must be allowed to naturally depressurize before opening the system.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the fuel pressure sensor threaded into the high-pressure fuel rail on the engine block.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the fuel rail and the base of the sensor with brake parts cleaner and compressed air. Absolute cleanliness is required to prevent debris from entering the common rail and destroying the injectors.
Remove the Sensor
Disconnect the electrical harness. Use a wrench to carefully unscrew the faulty sensor from the rail.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new OEM sensor into the rail by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten to the manufacturer's specific torque rating.
Reconnect and Prime
Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the key to the 'ON' position (without starting) or use the manual primer pump to prime the fuel system and purge any air.
Test
Start the engine, check for fuel leaks around the sensor threads, and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 19663 fault code.
