Case IH 1967-14 - UCM – UCM: Rear pilot head #5 reporting communication fault with vehicle controller
Issue description
This fault indicates that the Universal Control Module (UCM) has lost communication with, or is receiving an internal controller fault from, the electronic pilot head on rear remote valve #5. When it fails to communicate, the remote valve is taken offline and will not function.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum
- Steiger
- Quadtrac
- Puma
Check the cause
Unplug the connector at the UCM and the specific pilot head (#5) to check for water, dirt, or corrosion.
Trace the wiring harness from the UCM to the rear remote valve to ensure there are no shorts, breaks, or damaged grounds.
Ensure the UCM is receiving proper voltage, as UCM supply voltage issues can cause communication drops to the remote valves.
Repair steps
Clean
Clean the area around the rear remote valves to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect
Disconnect the electrical harness from the #5 remote valve pilot head.
Remove
Unbolt and remove the faulty pilot head from the top of the valve body.
Install
Install the new pilot head and torque to OEM specifications.
Reconnect
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Calibrate
Access the tractor's 'H' or 'HK' menu through the cab display. Navigate to Channel 1 (Valve Calibration) and run the calibration procedure to renumber and assign the new pilot head.
